Riding with a nervous dog or cat

Some pets love the ride. Some would rather not. Here’s how we plan around a worried dog or cat.

Tell us the honest version

Do they pant, cry, pace or hide? Have they been unwell on drives? There are no wrong answers. The more we know, the better the ride we can plan.

Covered carriers help shy cats

Many cats feel safer when they can’t see everything going on. A light cover over the carrier, a familiar blanket and a quiet voice go a long way.

Shorter first rides

For a nervous first-timer, we might suggest a short local ride before a longer one. Success builds on success.

Same routine every time

We write down what helps, so every ride starts the same way: same hello, same blanket, same calm.

Ask your vet

If your pet has a health condition, takes medication or gets carsick, ask your vet for travel advice and tell us what they recommend.

Your next conversation

Tell us who’s riding, where they’re headed and who’s waiting, or call us on (202) 555-0112. We’ll plan the ride with you.
